Community Meeting

This letter was sent to Fagmedia by the Order of Perpetual Indulgence who are concerned that their Correspondence to the WA AIDS Council seems to have gotten "lost in the mail". The broader Positive Community in Perth will be very disappointed that no action has been seen to have been taken to address the very serious issues that were raised by "everyone" who attended the NAPWA Forum which was "hosted" by the WA AIDS Council.
What is clear, however, is that while there are rumours of serious structural changes being made at the WA AIDS Council, the very people who are most effected, clients and members of the positive community, are once again the last to be informed of things that effect the lives of people with chronic illness who depend on what limited services are available.
Fagmedia notes that NAPWA/WAAC stated that there would be research and consultation undertaken with the community yet there is no evidence of this occuring. What does this say about the priorities of the Peak body representing Positive People in Australia, NAPWA, that, once again, the Government pays for them to come to WA, where they promise much and then do not deliver on even the most basic promise of a survey monkey?

Attention the NEW CEO of WAAC,
As we have not recieved any reply or acknowledgement from the WA AIDS
Council on this very important issue that was raised at the NAPWA Forum,
the Sisters will be contacting the Health Consumer's Council as we advised
you we would do to set up a community meeting to address the issues raised
in the email.
We would still like to invite WAAC to attend any meeting with the
community held by the Health Consumer's Council held in consultation with
the Positive Community.
Looking forward to your response
The Perth Order of Perpetual Indulgence.

Dear WAAC
The Sisters are holding a meeting for Positive people to look at Social
Service and networking needs for People with HIV.
This was an issue that was bought up by people who attended the NAWPA
Forum and was a major concern.
As part of our mission statement which is to advocate for positive people
we are holding a meeting to address the social peer support needs raised
at the NAPWA/WAAC Forum.
The Sisters would like to ask WAAC to facilitate this meeting. We are
going to put it in OUT in Perth and would WAAC send the details out using
your mailing List?
The Sisters feel this is a real concern of Positive people and a meeting
could be very productive in setting out some achievable outcomes which
would address structurally this issue which has been raised on more than
one occasion by people.
This will also give WAAC the opportunity to explain and provide
information about all the services does supply to the Positive Community.
The Sisters would would be happy to meet with WAAC to discuss this
meeting and WAAC having a role facilitating the meeting.
If WAAC are unable to help facilitate, the Sisters will seek the
assistance of the Health Consumer's Council to hold this community
meeting.
It is clear that the mental health issues raised in connection with social
services needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. This meeting
needs to take place within the next month. Waiting till NAPWA returns "in
3 months" is not in the best interests of the health of the positive
community.
The Perth Order of Perpetual Indulgence.
